Own Home Program |
| The goals of DOORWAYS’ Own Home Program are to help clients locate and secure safe, affordable housing, and to assist clients who face eviction from their homes or loss of utility services because of financial crises related to their illness. The program provides over $1 million per year in rent, mortgage, utility, and move-in subsidies on behalf of people who are homeless, or who would otherwise become homeless. The Own Home program serves clients throughout a broad geographic range that includes not only St. Louis City and County, but St. Charles, Lincoln, Franklin, Jefferson, Warren, Washington and Crawford counties in Missouri, as well as the Illinois counties of St. Clair, Madison, Clinton, Jersey, Monroe, Bond, Calhoun, and Macoupin. Subsidy payments are made directly to property owners, utility companies, and mortgage providers, after being paired with the 30% of income required from clients. This process ensures that DOORWAYS’ funds are allocated in a manner that promotes uninterrupted housing stability for our clients. |

Through the Clearinghouse, DOORWAYS’ Own Home program inspects units to determine cleanliness and safety, assesses compliance with housing quality standards, maintains a list of approved units for clients in need, and advocates for clients with landlords and utility companies.
One unique component of DOORWAYS’ Own Home subsidy program is “Jumpstart”. Designed for parents with HIV/AIDS, Jumpstart is a scattered-site housing program that provides DOORWAYS the opportunity to respond to the complex needs of women with children with housing and a wide array of supportive services.
